  1. What a great idea. Does your school not currently do the website or newsletter? What are the demographics at your school? It is so hard for a kid to find importance in school when their parents does not.

  2. Meghan we do have a website, but it does not have teacher pages. The current website is really just an overview of the school. We are a title one school with 70% free/reduces lunch. Thanks so much for you comment I am really excited about my research!

  3. Great plan! In step four you mentioned " Interview parents to get feedback on how they feel about the implementation of a web page, workshops and newsletters." Maybe you could leave it more open ended and pose a question like, what are the best ways to communicate with you? If you give them the opportunity to share what works best for them, it gives them more ownership in the improvement process. That way your parents will feel valued. Hopefully they will mention your already thought out plan of the web page, workshops and newsletters!!! :)
You have a good balance of qualitative and quantitative data to look at and reflect on! Good job!

  4. Parent involvement is so important to any school's success. I believe that schools must constantly evolve to changes related to the demographics within our schools. I teach in a high socioeconomic area. I am surprised by the number of parents that do not utilize the class websites that teachers update weekly. We went with this type of communication last school year. I am not sure about the demographics of your area, but I would like to learn more about how you are going to promote using class websites with parents. Sometimes teachers get discouraged about the amount of time they put into their site. I think we might just need more time to create that type of environment for parents. As a parent myself, I love having that type of information at my fingertips. Good luck with your research. I look forward to learning from your project.

  5. Involving parents in their child's education should help the child to take on a more positive approach on what their responsibilities are. The more informed parents are the better they'll be able to assist their child at home. You mentioned in #3 that you will survey parents about activities... I think it would be great to mention the activities that you will have in place for them to choose from (technology for free academic websites, after school programs, etc.). Your plan targets a great need for all schools and looks great! Best wishes on your journey.
